Notes from Bentucky

There's this little village in a southeastern Washington river valley that is like so many others...so many others that are hidden jewels. Benton City has garnered the name "Bentucky" because it is considered backwards by the raised noses of the near-by communities. We like it that way. It's "Back Home in ol Bentucky" to the strings of mandolins, banjos, fiddles, dulcimers, guitars and the like. Take off your cufflinks and other puffery and join us!

BUS PIX: Beginning to install the stainless steel Dickinson Marine Stove (solid fuel) bought on Ebay.

BUS PIX: BUNKHOUSE is peeking over our fence. There was room on the Hanford lighted markee for my bus name too. At the flip of a switch, the sign lights up just like the old 100 East and other destination signs.

BUS PIX: A little sandblasting and "voila", she's been named.

BUS PIX: 1964 Flxible Suburban...40' former worker delivery system to Hanford Reservation.
My baby. She's now the BUNKHOUSE and is being converted into a country style recreation activities vehicle.

LIBRARY SHERIFF

I just went through downtown Bentucky and saw an interesting sign on a storefront. LIBRARY SHERIFF. I wonder what he or she does as a library sheriff. Things are differnt here in Bentucky, fer sher. Let me think....chase folks that leave the library without properly checking out books? How 'bout issuing tickets for late returns. There's gotta be more challenging stuff to do. What about investigating missing books...damaged books...dog-earred books.... It could be endlessly challenging. There must in fact be a forensic science degree that deals specifically with the many challenges facing the modern library sheriff. I'll have to do a Google search on this...wait one.... Back. Looks like Bentucky is unique in it's use of this office. We're forward-looking! I look for other communities to emply one or more in the future.

Vacationing in NW Washington

I just returned from a week at our TrendWest condo at Birch Bay and am well-pleased with the experience. It's such a laid back community up there. I thought the Tri-Cities area was small town, but after gettin in a few days up there, my wife (Mary) and I learned that this area is a frantic nut house by comparisson.

A most notable side trip for us was to Bellingham where we experienced the Museum of Radio and Electricity. It's located in the downtown area with the local over-the-hill hippie shops. The museum was far more than I had expected. It has truely Smithsonian level exhibits and shouldn't be misssed if you have the chance.
